"My passion in mentoring girls in Stem is also a way of me giving back to the community, because I would not have fully focused in tech if not for people mentoring me. This is a call for me to drive that for women, to step out and challenge themselves. Because they can do these things as well. "

Virginiah Periah, based in Nairobi, is a tech leader and mentor.  

From her roots in microbiology and biotechnology to becoming a fully-fledged Software Engineer, Virginiah's story is one of ambition and adaptability. Her transition to tech has allowed her to leverage her curiosity and resilience, learning from mistakes and continually upskilling and reskilling.  

Virginiah has had a wide and varied career, from architecting solutions that empower African farmers through financial inclusion to leading innovative projects like Vistara, which uses data-driven insights to revolutionize sectors like banking.

Beyond her personal achievements, Virginiah is deeply committed to empowering the next generation of tech leaders. Through her involvement in mentoring programs like Northern Box and the Andela learning community, she is inspiring young women to pursue STEM careers, breaking barriers, and closing the gender gap in technology.
