At Andela, learning isn’t just a word we use. It is our commitment to action. We are constantly exploring opportunities to give talent a jumpstart in their careers and ensure they are well-equipped to meet the knowledge demands of today’s tech landscape and that of the future.
With cloud computing increasingly becoming a high-demand skill and many organizations moving their services to the Cloud, Andela partnered with AWS to launch the Skills Race program to train 500 developers across Latin America and Africa in cloud computing and other related in-demand skill sets.
Pathways without boundaries
Over 30 countries from Africa and Latin America were represented in the program. Regardless of what part of the world they live in, talent could participate fully in this program. They learned through live training sessions, and technical resources provided during the program.
Skills Race aimed to create an educational pathway for talent to become AWS-certified cloud practitioners without feeling bound by limitations. The program reduced some of the financial burden of upskilling by providing talent who joined the program with a 50% discount off the certification cost, amounting to a $50 value to each registered talent.
Building confidence for specialty roles
Andela recognized that in today’s tech environment, Cloud is no longer a choice but a necessity. Cloud enables lower capital costs, better security, quicker deployment, the ability to scale resources to meet changing demands, better disaster recovery and the ability to deploy applications globally.
Every smart organization understands the value of this and is seeking experts who can help facilitate cloud adoption and utilization.
The AWS Cloud Practitioner certification program serves as a vital entry point to a cloud career for participants. It provides a foundational, high-level understanding of AWS Cloud, terminology, and services, including infrastructure, databases, analytics, AI/ML and IoT.
Participants in the program shared how detailed and thorough the training was, equipping them with knowledge they could activate immediately or use as a stepping-stone to build more knowledge. One of the program participants, Shakera Karolia, said she felt confident enough to take the certification test immediately after completing the training. In contrast, Oluseye Onigbinde said it gave him the enthusiasm to write a Solutions Architect exam he had been putting off.
Opening new vistas
The program certification also opened the door to new job opportunities for certified talent who now have the skills to apply for high-demand cloud talent roles such as Cloud Solutions Architect, Cloud Developer/ Software Developer, Cloud DevOps Engineer, Cloud Security Engineer, Cloud Network Engineer and more.
The program ran from March 2023 to April 2023, with 500 talents attending the live training session and 62 passing the certification test and receiving an AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certificate through the program.
Andela creates targeted learning programs designed to meet the demands of the modern world. Each program, often in partnership with pioneering tech organizations, provides participants with hands-on experience, access to top-tier mentors, and opportunities to work on real-world projects.
