Plato’s annual Elevate conference is going virtual for 2021 on September 24-25, and it promises to be the largest virtual summit of the year aimed at engineering leaders. The speakers’ lineup includes CTOs and VPs from tech leaders like Google, AWS, Twitter, Slack, Shopify, and more.
Andela CTO David Blair will join a panel on the 24th at 11:40 AM PST that will discuss “Making an Impact as a Technologist in Uncertain Times.” Joining David will be Elaine Zhou, CTO of online petition website Change.org, and Shilpa Varma, Chief Architect of content management platform Box. Day 1 of Elevate is free, and Day 2 features small group workshops for a fee. You can get discounted access to Day 2 using “andela” as promo code during registration.
Uncertain times–an understatement for describing the coronavirus pandemic–have made leadership more challenging than ever for engineering managers. “Making good, fast decisions is challenging under the best of circumstances,” consultants at McKinsey said. “But during a crisis of uncertainty, organizations often face a potentially paralyzing volume of unfamiliar, high-stakes decisions.”
An added feature of this year’s Elevate event will be virtual “lounges” where sponsors will be on hand to answer questions about their products and services. Every lounge has a theme, and Andela is hosting a lounge on the topic, “When average won’t do–Learn how to look beyond the resume and code test to find elite global talent.” Attendees can learn from Andela’s experience recruiting, onboarding, and managing high-performing global teams.
According to iCIMS, even amid the pandemic, 60 percent of engineering roles are unfilled, and 92 percent of candidates have multiple job offers. Growing and sustaining high performing teams requires new ways of recruiting, onboarding, and managing developers in uncertain times.
What does it mean to make a difference as a technologist in this environment? How do you best scale and manage all-remote teams? What are the hard and soft skills that need to be elevated, and what are the best practices for managers to help their teams not just be efficient and productive? Register here and join the discussion and visit the Andela lounge on September 24th to find out!
